How to microdose with your truffles
Everything you need for your next cycle, on one page. Read it once before you start, then come back whenever you need a reminder.
Step 1
Find your dose
Each blister in your strip holds one microdose: about 1 g of fresh truffle. A microdose is sub-perceptual, so you shouldn't clearly feel it.
New to microdosing or sensitive? Start low with about three quarters of a blister (0.75 g), or even half a blister (0.5 g), for your first doses. Track how you feel, then adjust.
After 1.5 to 2 weeks you notice no shift at all in focus, energy or mood.
→ Go up a little, about 10 to 20%
Subtle, but there. A little brighter, calmer or more focused, and your day runs as normal.
→ Stay here
You clearly feel it: buzzy, restless, distracted or unusually tired.
→ Go down a little next time
Adjust in small steps. Often 0.1 to 0.2 g is enough, so give each change a few dose days before you judge it.
Step 2
Follow the rhythm: 1 day on, 2 days off
We recommend the Fadiman protocol. Take one dose, rest for two days, and repeat. The rest days keep tolerance from building and give you room to notice what is changing.
That is about 10 doses a month, so a 12 g pack lasts you roughly five weeks.
How long? Most people do a cycle of 4 to 8 weeks, then take a break and come back only when they feel called to. Microdosing is a tool, not a daily crutch.
Other rhythms. Some people alternate days (1 on, 1 off) or follow the Stamets protocol (4 days on, 3 days off). If you are unsure, stay with Fadiman.
Step 3
On a dose day
A simple routine that works for most people.
- 1
First thing in the morning
Take your dose on an empty stomach, before you eat anything.
- 2
Swallow it, don't chew
Swallow it with a glass of water. Chewing can cause a stronger initial spike.
- 3
Have a light breakfast
Eat something light afterwards so your morning feels steady.
- 4
Let your coffee wait
Give it 2 to 3 hours before your first coffee. Taken together, they can feel overstimulating.
- 5
Go about your day
Keep your plans fairly light, especially in the first weeks, and don't drive.
- 6
Reflect in the evening
Take two minutes to note how the day felt. One line in a journal is enough.
Rest days are part of the practice. Sleep well, move your body, spend time outside and notice how you feel without a dose.
Storage
Keep them fresh
Keep them sealed in their pouch in the fridge. Stored like this, they stay fresh for up to 2 months.
Freezing ruins fresh truffles. The fridge is all they need.
It sometimes happens. If the truffles are still cold and smell fresh, they are fine. Refrigerate them and use them within 30 days.
Store them where children and pets can't get to them.
Good to know
Common questions
I don't feel anything. Is it working?
That is normal. Microdosing is subtle, and the benefits often show up over weeks rather than hours. If you notice no shift in focus, energy or mood after 1.5 to 2 weeks, increase your dose slightly. Also ask yourself: am I taking time to reflect on the changes I want to see?
I feel tired or drowsy after dosing.
This is common while your body adjusts and usually passes after 1 to 2 hours. Try a slightly lower dose or change the timing of your breakfast.
Can I drink coffee or alcohol?
Coffee is fine, ideally 2 to 3 hours after your dose. Keep alcohol to a minimum during your cycle to protect your sleep and your progress.
Can I exercise on a dose day?
Absolutely. Many people feel more present and connected during movement, especially outside in nature.
I missed a dose day. What now?
No problem. Take your dose the next morning and continue the rhythm from there. Never take two doses to catch up.
Will I build a tolerance?
Not with the Fadiman rhythm. The two rest days between doses keep tolerance from building.
